Academic Awards 2007-8

The Ukrainian Catholic Education Foundation is pleased to announce the awarding of the following scholarships and bursaries for the 2007-8 academic year. It is our hope that the contribution of these scholarship recipients to the Ukrainian Catholic Church will be a significant one.

PROF. W. BOLUBASH INITIATIVE BURSARY FUND

The Wolodymyr Bolubash Initiative Bursaries are awarded annually to students of the Ukrainian Catholic University who are registered in their second year or higher of undergraduate study, who require financial assistance, have achieved a better than average grade point in their previous year(s) of study, and who participate in volunteer work and/or cultural organizations. These annual scholarships were made possible through the generous donations of countless UCEF donors in response to Prof. Wolodymy Bolubash’s call to establish a scholarship fund for the students of the Ukrainian Catholic University, as well as donations made in memory of Prof. Wolodymyr Bolubash.

SEMINARY SCHOLARSHIP FUND

In the fall of 2007 a one-time Scholarship from UCEF was awarded in honour of UCEF Founding Trustee Most Rev. Cornelius J. Pasichnyj, Bishop Emeritus of the Eparchy of Toronto & Eastern Canada on the occasion of his 80th birthday. Bishop Cornelius joined the Basilian Fathers at the age of 15 and has faithfully served our Church in Canada as a priest for 54 years and as a bishop for 11 years. The topic of vocations is very close to his heart, having served as spiritual director to the Religious Order of St. Basil the Great, as well as at Holy Spirit Seminary. Upon the recommendation of the Rector of the Holy Spirit Seminary in Ottawa, Canada, this award was presented to:

Alexander M. Laschuk, of Oshawa, ON, currently studying towards civil and ecclesiastical degrees in theology (Honours Bachelor of Theology).

UCEF SEMINARIAN EXCELLENCE AWARD

This award will be granted annually to a Ukrainian Catholic seminarian at the Holy Spirit Seminary in Ottawa, ON, enrolled in a Bachelor of Theology or Master of Pastoral Theology programme who has shown academic distinction, and who has made a contribution to the life of the Seminary and society as a whole. In the fall of 2007, this award was presented to:

Grygoriy Chronyi, originally from Luka (Ternopil Region), Ukraine, currently working towards a Masters Degree in Pastoral Theology.

UCEF SEMINARY SCHOLARSHIPS

These Scholarships shall be awarded annually to qualified seminarians who are be enrolled in a Bachelor of Theology or Master of Pastoral Theology program, who require financial assistance, have achieved a better than average grade point in their previous year(s) of study and who participate in pastoral work in the community. In the Fall of 2007, UCEF Seminary Scholarships were awarded in memory of Rev. Ihor Chabursky, whose family and friends contributed to the Fund in his memory, to the following seminarians at Holy Spirit Seminary in Lviv, Ukraine:
